ERNESTO VILLA-LOBOS
Composer and Violin

Composer Ernesto Villa-Lobos, an important figure in the nascent generation of Mexican classically trained musicians living in New York, combines eclectic orchestration with revolutionary compositional techniques to create ethno-folkloric textures and a characterizing Caribbean dynamism. He was recently invited to premiere his symphonic piece Lamento Criollo at the Senator J. William Fulbright Seminar in Washington D.C. Ernesto, at age eighteen received the National Award of the Arts in Mexico. He is also known for being a virtuoso violinist, having won first prize at the 1999 Young Artists Competition in California and was a Laureate of the Koussevitzky International Violin Competition in New York.
