Don’t miss the launch concert of POA’s exciting year-long Mexico Bicentennial project! This evening will feature master works by Mexican composers that are seldom heard in the concert hall, and which are the centerpieces of POA’s forthcoming recording for Sony Classical (released in August). Conducted by Alondra de la Parra and featuring the POA with special guests Daniel Andai (violin) and Pablo Sainz-Villegas (guitar).

Los Angeles’ Walt Disney Concert Hall will ring to the sounds of tango, pop and electronica fused with full symphony orchestra when Argentine-Uruguyan music collective Bajofondo joins forces with the POA and Alondra de la Parra for a single evening of spectacular Latin fusion. This production is presented by the Los Angeles Philharmonic as part of its Americas and Americans Festival to celebrate the arrival of its new music director, Gustavo Dudamel.

2010 NIÑOS CONCERT

El Teatro at El Museo del Barrio, 1230 Fifth Avenue, NY

Please join us for the annual public celebration of our Niños education program in New York City schools, featuring world premiere performances of compositions developed in classrooms by Niños students during a five-month teaching residency by POA artists.  Conducted by Alondra de la Parra and featuring the POA with student composers from New York City schools.

This very special concert, "Celebración de un sueño" (Celebration of a Dream), takes place at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, October 21, 2009, and features a joyful celebration of Latin and American music by Piazzolla, Bernstein, Corigliano, and Marquez, conducted by Alondra de la Parra and featuring guest cellist Denise Djokic.

The concert opens with Oscar-winning composer John Corigliano's "Promenade" Overture, and also features Astor Piazzolla's "Tangazo," Leonard Bernstein's "Candide" Overture, Arturo Marquez's cello concerto, "Espejos en la Arena (Pictures in the Sand)," and Igor Stravinsky's iconic "Firebird" Suite.
